Clean, dry air is vital to any engine and around town or on the highway a 4-wheel drive's stock air filter does an admirable job of protecting it from contamination. However, once that vehicle hits the trail, deep water crossings and plumes of thick bull dust can overwhelm its stock filter and literally destroy its engine. Experienced 4-wheel drive explorers have long known this and consider raising their engines' air-intakes a vital step in creating greater protection. American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) makes this vital step easy for Jeep JK owners by offering a raised intake snorkel system. This easily installed product places the air intake point at roof level which allows the engine and filter to breath more safely from a location well above the deepest water crossings and densest dust.

AEV's JK snorkel can be had with either our Air Ram (scoop) or our cylindrical Pre-Filter (bowl).  Both allow the engine to breath equally well, but both have distinct advantages and disadvantages when compared to one other.   The Air Ram is designed to draw in air and separate rain water from the air charge.  It is incredibly rugged and well suited to wooded terrain where impacts with trees and branches are likely. By comparison, the pre-filter is designed to draw in air and separate both rain and dust from the air charge. Though the Pre-Filter lacks the ruggedness of the Air Ram, it is well suited to dry, desert terrain where thick dust is likely.  The Pre-Filter is also cleanable and virtually reusable for the life of the snorkel.
